Dr. Selim studied medicine, public health and anthropology. She is currently on leave to pursue her doctoral studies in medical anthropology on "Sufi Healing Practices" at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Free University Berlin (Germany) with a scholarship from DAAD. Dr. Selim works at JPGSPH as Senior Lecturer. She has taught anthropological approaches to public health, qualitative research methods, methodology workshop and scientific writing for MPH students as well as short course participants. She also taught public health seminars to BRAC University undergraduate students. She was co-investigator in three completed mixed-method, multi-country research projects: (1) “Health Professional Education Situation Analysis of Bangladesh”(2012); (2) "Violence against marginalized women in Bangladesh" (2010); and, (3) "Globalization as a social determinant of health: Influences on patterns of food consumption among young people in Asian Universities"(2009). She has co-edited a volume with Sjaak Van der Geest and Shahaduz Zaman and published in international and national peer-reviewed journals. 


Areas of interest: Intersection of medicine and religion in terms of alternative healing, self-care and meditation practices, social determinants of health, public mental health, health professional education, qualitative research and mixed methods as well as the interface of public health with social sciences specially the field of medical anthropology and anthropology of religion.
