Objective
Primary Objectives
● To analyse clinical data and laboratory sample parameters to differentiate between dengue and non-dengue illness within the first 72 hours of fever for predicting the progression of dengue fever to more severe disease course, with the overall aim of developing a robust case definition for dengue.
● To identify virological correlations of severe dengue – in particular to assess plasma viremia and NS1 antigenemia within the first 72 hours of fever in patients with confirmed dengue.
● To identify early serological correlations of severe dengue, in order to characterize differences between severe and uncomplicated disease.
● To identify other infectious agents manifesting similar primary signs and symptoms as Dengue pathogenesis with the help of blood culture.
Secondary Objectives
● To evaluate practical application of the original (WHO 1997) and the new dengue classification schemes (WHO 2009).
● To use the data to update the guidelines for Dengue risk factors proposed by WHO.
