Impact evaluation design for evaluation of adolescent student program (Bangladesh) – qualitative component

Objective:This multi-year mixed-methods impact evaluation will evaluate the impact of the virtually-delivered adolescent outreach programme based on growth mindset (GM) and girl rising (GR) interventions. with the overall aim to improve adolescent well-being and educational outcomes. The objective is to equip the GoB with an evidence-based and cost-effective model before scaling-up the diverse components of the intervention package.
As GAGE is also interested in collecting panel data to inform other ongoing research the design will include questions on other related themes that shape adolescent experience, in line with the GAGE Conceptual Framework. This submission will cover the qualitative component of the mixed-methods design. "
Methodology: The qualitative sample will overlap with the quantitative cluster Randomized Control Trial (cRCT) sample. The intervention package was delivered in either Government schools or MPO schools and our sample is distributed amongst these two types of institutions. As the sample for this round of fieldwork has already been approached at qualitative baseline (2020) and for a round of COVID-19 specific qualitative data collection (2020), the same group of adolescents will attempt to be contacted for this fieldwork in order to increase longitudinal data points for the same individuals, as well as further solidify the rapport between adolescent and researcher. Qualitative methods will include in depth individual interviews (IDIs) with adolescents enrolled in grade 7 and grade 8 in 2020; in depth individual interviews (IDIs) with adolescent who did not reenrol in school after the covid-19 school closures; Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with parents of other adolescents in the sample as well as DFGs with groups of other adolescents in the sample; and finally key informant interviews (KIIs) with school teachers and intervention facilitators.
