Short Biography
Dr. Zahidul Quayyum is a Professor and Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH) at BRAC University. He is the Co-Director of the Centre of Excellence for Urban Equity and Health (CUEH). He is a health economist and a public health researcher and has more than 27 years of experience conducting health economics and health systems research. He has worked as a Health Economist in many national and international projects and has been involved in working on economic evaluation of interventions and economic analysis of policy changes for improving health and health care. He has also been involved in conducting systematic review of economic evaluation, within trial national and multi-country economic evaluation, decision modelling and health technology assessment for the NIHR projects (UK) and EU funded projects in the UK. He is currently leading five (one funded by FCDO and one by Wellcome Trust through Imperial College) research projects at BRAC JPGSPH, three as Principal Investigator and two as Co-Investigator, and has been involved in evaluating health care interventions, and has been involved in assessing the impact of environment, housing and neighborhood and co-producing interventions with public engagement for improving urban health Pathways to Equitable Healthy Cities and designing urban health system interventions and leading the work programme on capacity strengthening for researchers and health systems actors (Chorus Urban Health). He is coordinating and teaching in the Health Economics and Health Care Financing Module for the Master of Public Health (MPH) at BRAC JPGSPH. He is also co-supervising a PhD student (at University of Leeds), and supervising MPH students for Thesis. His research work focuses on maternal and child health, social determinants of health, urban health, climate and health, and health of the marginalized population.
