Short Biography
Dr. Kawkab is a physician and a public health specialist with around 18 years’ experience in health sector including global North and South. Starting as a physician Dr. Kawkab got six years’ hands-on experience through in-service postgraduate training in endocrinology and diabetes and also a Master in Public Health from the University of Melbourne as an ADB-Japan scholar. Her research experience includes both health systems and clinical research. Dr. Kawkab joined the BRAC JPG SPH and worked from 2012 to 2015 for 3 years as a health systems researcher, and managed several mixed method studies focused on health care service and and health education program evaluation, policy mapping. She was mostly responsible for the technical part of research including protocol writing, tool development, systematic literature review, pretest, data analysis, report and manuscript writing.Then she got an opportunity to work for the University of British Columbia, Canada in a 3 year long clinical research project on "Treatment response of depression and bipolar disorder and effect on cognitive and neuropsychitraic functioning" Dr. Kawkab has additional part-time experience as a teaching fellow in the global MPH program at JPG SPH and also in leading health program for primary health care service provision in Rohingya refugee response. Currently she is placed at the school as the Senior Research Coordinator and managing a a multi-country project on “Strengthening health systems by addressing community health workers’ mental wellbeing and agency” funded by NIHR, England.
